Main Justice Project

Promoting the Independence and Impartiality of the Judiciary

As a follow up on its previous work, the Working Group is now focusing on the situation of the judiciary in the South and East EuroMed region. The general objective of the “Promoting the independence and impartiality of the Judiciary in the EuroMed Region” project is the instauration of an independent and impartial judiciary in the South and East EuroMed region based on international human rights standards. The mid-term objective is to further the development of networks and groups of actors in South and East Mediterranean societies able to influence the judiciaries towards reform. The short term objective is to contribute to the development of spaces for free debate between key actors on the independence and impartiality of the judiciary in order to facilitate the process towards reform, and to sustain and widen the free spaces for debate by developing regional exchange and synergies between civil society actors to advocate for and monitor regional reform initiatives.
