First meeting of the board of the Euro Mediterranean Foundation for Support of Human Rights Defenders
The board of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Foundation (EMHRF) gathered for its first meeting on the 6 and 7 February 2005 in London. During the meeting the members present defined the essential characteristics of the operational and effective set up of the Foundations.
Mr. Driss El Yazami, was elected President of the Foundation and the board also nominated two additional members, Ms Salima Ghezali, Sakharov Prize winner (European Parliament, 1999), and Ms Lynn Welshmann, Professor of law at SOAS, London. They will join the current board members, Driss El Yazami, Bahey El Din Hassan, Khemais Chammari, Kamel Jendoubi, Eskil Trolle and Christine M. Merkel.
The Foundation has now launched a vacancy for an executive director to start his/her assignment as soon as possible.
The Foundation has defined a budget allowing it to initiate its support activities from now on and the following month onward. The criteria for evaluation of applications have been discussed and the board also defined activities, countries, organizations and individuals eligible for financial support. These documents will soon be published in the Foundation’s three working languages, English, Arabic and French. From this moment on the Foundation will be in a position to receive applications.
