Human Rights Education aims to protect the inherent dignity of the human person and to develop understanding, tolerance and respect for others. If these are some of the aims of human rights, then the role of education in protecting these rights, and identifying those responsibilities, must be to teach about the world in which we live and the people with whom we share that world.

In our view, human rights education must take into account four key dimensions - all of which need to be addressed in order to achieve desired ends. Each of these dimensions is of equal importance and one should not be prioritised above another. In such a context, education for human rights is the active process by which people, through personal experience and shared knowledge.
