Joint Cooperation Agreement Between the Amman Center For Human Rights Studies [ACHRS] and Justice for Prisoners (Iraq) Date: 29-04-2008

A delegation of five members of the board of directors from Justice for Prisoners, headed by the President Ahmed Al Musawi, have visited the premises of the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies [ACHRS].
The two sides discussed bilateral relations between the two establishments and the ways and means needed to consolidate and upgrade these relations in a manner that would be useful to the democratic process. They also discussed how to coordinate their stands toward the challenges that are encountering the civil society organizations in the two fraternal countries.
 Mr Al Musawi affirmed the depth of the fraternal relations existing between the Jordanian and Iraqi civil society organizations.
The meeting was concluded by signing a joint cooperation agreement between the Justice for Prisoners and the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies [ACHRS]. The aim of the agreement is to consolidate joint coordination and cooperation between the two sides that primarily focuses on the rights of prisoners, but also on human rights in general, upgrading the techniques of public work and collective voluntary awareness, and on raising the standards and capabilities of the personnel of civil society organizations.
The two sides asserted the importance of the exchange of expertise in the field of the exchange of information and the training of personnel. They also asserted the importance of continued contacts between the two sides and the exchange of publications and visits.

ACHRS has been working with Iraqi NGOs for four years and has implemented more than 300 different activities (conferences, seminars and training courses) both inside Iraq and in Amman, with more than 7300 persons participating, run with more than one hundred Iraqi NGOs. Examples of these include; human rights monitoring, election monitoring, women's and children's rights, the international standards of the right to a fair trial, encouraging the participation of women and youth in political life, human rights aspects of the constitution, on the training of trainers and on base building and non-violent conflict resolution. We have also currently running a project on academic freedom, which has recently included the holding of a conference of academics from across the region, of which a good proportion were from Iraq.
