Background: The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN) was founded in January 1997 in response to the Barcelona Declaration of November 1995 and the establishment of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (EMP). It is the coordinating body of about eighty human rights organisations and institutions as well as individuals from over thirty countries. The EMHRN organisational structure is built on a general assembly, an executive committee working groups and a secretariat. The EMHRN secretariat is located in Copenhagen. It has an office in Brussels and antennas in Rabat and Amman.
Rooted in civil society the Network seeks to develop and strengthen partnerships between NGOs in the EuroMed region, i.e. networking aimed at strengthening the capacity of members to act and interact within the context of the region and the Barcelona process and other EU-Arab cooperation frameworks.
It is within this context that the EMHRN seeks a.
Duties: The manager will
- conduct fund raising for EMHRN activities
- ensure sound and efficient management of EMHRN contractual relations and obligations in relation to donors
- ensure proper management of tenders, and develop the EMHRN’s capacity in this regard
- steer EMHRN contractual relations with partners, researchers, etc
- manage human resource development
Principal qualifications and core competence
- Advanced university degree or similar experience (a legal background will be considered an asset)
- Proven successful experience in the following fields:
o Fund raising
o Knowledge and understanding of donor policies
o Project management
o The work and functioning of NGOs
o Staff development and labour law
o The Mediterranean and the Middle East
o Human rights standards and international humanitarian law
o Excellent knowledge of English and at least one of two other EMHRN working languages (Arabic and French) (knowledge of Danish will be considered an asset)
o Knowledge and understanding of donor policies
o Project management
o The work and functioning of NGOs
o Staff development and labour law
o The Mediterranean and the Middle East
o Human rights standards and international humanitarian law
o Excellent knowledge of English and at least one of two other EMHRN working languages (Arabic and French) (knowledge of Danish will be considered an asset)
Other competences: Developed communication skills (oral and written). Ability to draft clearly and succinctly.
The coordinator should be able to establish and maintain contacts with public and private donors, and to work efficiently in a multicultural environment, in particular in a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern context. He/she has good analytical skills, is resourceful, organised in his/her work with capacity to deal effectively with changing priorities, able to keep strict deadlines and to deal with several projects simultaneously. Computer literacy required.
Salary: Based on Danish standard for NGOs.
